I went to Nebel Street Animal Hospital for more than a decade, originally because Dr. Hambright provided wonderful care for my cat, Bella. I had a lot of trust in this practice for many years. Unfortunately, my experience changed significantly after the practice was sold and Dr. Hambright left.
Ever since my senior dog, Jaws, became seriously ill in late 2025, I saw approximately five different veterinarians. The biggest problem was the lack of continuity. At many appointments, I had to explain his medications, diagnoses, and history from scratch, and it often seemed that his records and previous test results had not been reviewed in advance. I also did not have access to complete copies of his records and test results, which made it difficult to understand his condition or track changes over time.
As Jaws developed kidney disease, heart disease, and significant orthopedic problems, I desperately needed someone to help me step back and prioritize his care and quality of life. Instead, I often felt like we were chasing individual test results and diagnoses without anyone helping me answer the bigger questions: What would actually improve his comfort? What was necessary versus optional? What should we stop pursuing? I was often told I could follow up with questions, but then the veterinarian I had seen would leave the practice.
The front desk staff were the exception. They were consistently kind and compassionate and provided the continuity the veterinary team could not. They helped me get appointments on short notice, navigate special diets, and even find less expensive options for medications. I am genuinely grateful to them.
My final experience in August 2026 was especially difficult. I brought Jaws in after he stopped eating and was clearly declining. Much of the appointment focused on his vision and blindness, while I was increasingly concerned about his immediate decline and inability to eat. He was ultimately referred to the ER, continued to deteriorate, and passed away shortly afterward.
I understand that Jaws was very old and seriously ill, and that no veterinarian could have changed the ultimate outcome. My concern is that during the most medically complicated period of his life, I never had a veterinarian who could help me understand the whole picture or make informed decisions about his care, comfort, and quality of life.
After more than a decade with this practice, it is painful to say that I would no longer recommend Nebel Street Animal Hospital. If you're considering this practice, I would ask about continuity of care, access to your pet's records and test results, and how they support senior animals with multiple chronic conditions.
Sadly I agree that they've gone downhill. Wait times are longer, vets are less helpful. This last visit we were told they had a 1pm spot, then when calling to confirm it was actually 1:30. We arrived at 1:15 and waited more than an hour before even being given a room, where we waited another half hour. Doesn't feel worth coming here anymore
